Last minute geek gift ideas
Christmas is around the corner. I thought I'd post a few last-minute ideas for your favorite geek, just in case you're panicking.
I’m always scrambling to find a few good gifts for at the last minute. For your friends and family geeks, here’s my list. (I always try to find something that’s actually useful, not just some trinket that nobody really wants…)
Toe socks. I know, goofy — but what geek doesn’t want to be cozy while coding? Wool hiking toe socks $7.99
Simply the most amazing book I’ve read in the past few years: “The Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss $9.89 paperback or $25.61 hardcover
For the retro minded, let’s roll back to 1980: Casio Men's Vintage Calculator Watch $21.92
Tee-shirts are always a hit:
"Obey Chthulu" Classic Tee $25.67 (one of my personal favorites)
Minimal Solar System Tee $24.95
There are so many things to stay on top of in tech! To really impress, how about the gift of knowledge? A subscription to A Cloud Guru $35 / month
Or, a personal server farm (any programmer is gauranteed to tinker with this) Raspberry Pi 4 Model B $35+
For the board gamer, a good game is always a hit:
Fun and kid friendly, Obscurio Board Game (kids and adults, ages 10+) $55.99
For the more advanced, Root: The Roleplaying Game Deluxe Edition $89.99
The most amazing wallet by SECRID $89+
A Kindle, because… reading! Kindle e-reader $99+
And finally, high-tech and retro at the same time, a reMarkable writing tablet $299
My personal favorites are the SECRID wallet (got one a year ago in Canada and absolutely love it), Root, and my reMarkable tablet (which I absolutely love, it convinced me to ditch my iPad and I’ve never looked back).
